The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Quality and Safeguards Commission called for submissions for recommending any changes to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s processes or systems, legal framework, or functions.
The National Mental Health Consumer & Carer Forum (NMHCCF) submitted a response to the call for submissions on 2 July 2020.
Reason for the submission
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services. The NMHCCF Consumer Co-Chair is a member of the NDIS Consultative Committee. The NMHCCF was invited to submit a response into the investigation into the circumstances of the death of Ms Ann Marie Smith on 6 April 2020.
The NMHCCF’s submission focussed on the following key points:
- Overview of psychosocial disability.
- The role of the NDIS Commission.
- Provider Registration and Responsibilities.
- Employee worker screening and capability.
- Protecting people from harm.
