Easy Read: NMHCCF Position Statement on the NDIS Review Final Report

About this Statement

This statement is by the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum. We are called the NMHCCF for short.

This statement is about the NDIS Review Final Report.

We explain:

  • our concerns about the Report,
  • our ideas for improvements in future.

This is an Easy Read summary. It explains the main ideas.

About the NDIS Final Report

The NDIS Review was about how well NDIS is working.

The Review looked at:

  • problems with NDIS,
  • what needs to be better.

At the end of the Review, NDIS wrote a Final Report.

The Report has 26 recommendations. These are ideas about how to make NDIS better.

There are 139 actions. These are things governments should do to make NDIS better.

We say there are some good ideas that will make NDIS better.

But there are some things we are concerned about.

The Review did not listen to the voice of people with disability and carers enough.

Many people with psychosocial disability are worried about NDIS words like:

  • choice and control,
  • reasonable and necessary.

They worry that other people will:

  • decide what is best for them,
  • force them to stay in treatment places or take medicines.
