Wednesday 4 December 2024

12.00-1.00pm AEDT via Zoom

The National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum (NMHCCF) hosted a webinar on its Peer Workforce Readiness Checklist, developed in partnership with Lived Experience Australia.

The Peer Workforce Readiness Checklist outlines core elements for successful implementation of peer work and informed planning. It identifies strategies to address the potential pitfalls and cultural challenges with ongoing implementation of the peer work role. THe Checklist is also a practical planning and reflective tool to assist organisations to recognise and implement a comprehensive plan to incorporate and strengthen a peer workforce.

The webinar consisted of an introduction to the Peer Workforce Readiness Checklist by the NMHCCF's Mental Health (Peer) Workforce Working Group before a facilitated panel discussion. The panel discussion involved the following three prominent speakers:

  • Jackie Hallan: Deputy CEO of ReachOut, Australia’s leading digital youth mental health service.

  • Tamara Northey: NSW Consumer Representative of the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum.

  • Evelyn David-Hoole: Lived Experience Section of the Department of Health and Aged Care.

The webinar attracted 257 registrations, 80% of these identified as someone with a mental health Lived Experience. There was a wide showing across Australia, with most attendees coming from New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia. A large array of sectors was also in attendance, with 93 people registering as non-government, 82 people registering as working in the Lived Experience sector, and 59 people registering as government employees.
