The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety called for submissions into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

The National Mental Health Consumer & Carer Forum (NMHCCF) submitted a response to the call for submissions on 30 June 2020.

Reason for the submission

The submission was provided to inform the work of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety on the mental health needs of older people.

The NMHCCF submission focused on the following points:

  • Responded to some of the key questions asked by the Royal Commission.
  • The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety Interim Report, 2019.
  • Mental health and older people.
  • The challenges for older people with mental health issues living at home or in a residential aged care facility.
  • How providers of aged care services can better deliver services to older people to maintain good mental health and support people with mental health issues.
  • Some examples of good practice and innovative models in delivering services for older people to maintain good mental health.
