Media Release: NMHCCF-Monash Research Wins the 2024 TheMHS Short-Term Initiatives and Projects Award

On 29 August 2024 at TheMHS Conference in Canberra, the Mental Health Family Carer Experiences during COVID-19: Navigating complexity/diversity within a co-produced Australian national research project received the 2024 TheMHS Short-Term Initiatives & Projects Award.

The collaborative study funded by the National Mental Health Commission, was initiated by the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum (NMHCCF), partnering with Monash University SWITCH Research Group and diverse stakeholders across Australia, to explore the experiences of mental health carers and family members during Covid-19.

The Report was released in September 2022, with 10 recommendations made to Government. Short-term recommendations include: greater inclusion of carers/family members in clinical settings, creation of carer peer navigational roles, creation of carer on-call support roles to address crisis, carer respite accessibility to maintain employment, and establishing local and regional centres for family assistance.
