The National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum (NMHCCF) has engaged in active advocacy by calling on all federal Australian senators to vote no on passing the NDIS Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024 in its current form. Until the disability sector has been appropriately consulted and the issues it raises have been satisfactorily addressed, it would be imprudent for the Australian Parliament to pass this legislation.
You can familiarise yourelf with the issues at stake in the NMHCCF's upcoming submission to the Consultation on Draft Lists of NDIS Supports currently bing held by the Department of Social Services. In essence, the NDIS is proposing draft lists of NDIS supports under the NDIS Amendment Bill's s10 transitional rule, which will be set in place 28 days after ascent of this legislation if passed. These draft lists are unclear, lack the flexibility both Minister Shorten and the NDIS Review have purported in the new NDIS, do not address the needs of the psychosocial disability community, and are sought to be rushed through parliament without appropriate consultation or co-design with the disability community.
