|Representative Title:||Northern Territory Carer Representative|
Originally from South Australia I moved to the Northern Territory in 2008 and undertook a change of career to work for a NGO in an Indigenous specific Family Coping Mental Health program in urban Alice Springs and several remote communities. While working in the program I established a carers group in a remote community.
My professional background includes qualifications as a Registered Nurse ,Licensed Land and Buisness Agent and small business owner in a commercial/corporate sector.I worked for Non Government and Not For Profit agencies in the Out Of Home Care sector in the Northern Territory for 10 years.
As Advocate for an NGO I covered the Southern Region of the Northern Territory ( Alice Springs to Tennant Creek) undertaking complex advocacy cases and supporting Foster and Kinship Carers.
I hold a Certificate IV in Assessment and Training and completed facilitator training in a wide range of specialized programs including Foetal Alcohol Spectum Disorder.
I bring my lived experience perspective to my role as Northern Territory Carer Representative on the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum. I have been an active advocate for positive change in the Mental Health system for 17 years. I have a special interest in Mental Health legislation and policy and I am committed to improving experiences of those with mental ill health , their families and carers.
I have had a long standing association with carers groups in the Mental Health sector and was one of the first facilitators trained to deliver the "Well Ways" Family and Carer education program in South Australia for MIFSA (now Skylight) in 2006.
I have served on several Boards at local and State level including on the Board of MIFANT for 5 years.I represented family and carers in the NT at the RANZCP Congress in Darwin in 2011 and at a Co-ordinated Care round table discussion MHCA held at Parliament House Canberra.
I am fortunate to have received a number of scholarships including opportunities to attend the Australian Society of Psychiatric Research international conference and "Faces In The Street" Homelessness Conference both held in Sydney.
As Northern Territory Carer Representative I look forward to working with other members of the National Mental Health Consumer and Carer Forum.
